We╒re very proud to introduce you to Plugsound with this demo. This text file contains all you need to get started. Please print it or save it for future reference.
The UVI engine is extremely powerful and Plugsound demonstrates this power very aptly. That╒s why we╒ve decided to leave ALL of Plugsound╒s features in the demo. This is not a cut-down version of the plug-in. The sound library, however, couldn╒t fit in a downloadable demo. Not even by far. So we╒ve created miniaturized version of our favourite patches, so that download time would fall to a reasonable 15-30 minutes on a regular modem. You can trust them to accurately showcase the sound quality of the full version, but remember that these presets are only a fraction of the CDROM version. Feel free to experiment with all the features, using our .pdf manual as a reference if necessary, and enjoy the power of Plugsound.
Before Installing
Please read carefully the included documentation before installing Plugsound.
Depending on your system, you may want to restart your Mac with extensions off before launching the installer.
You may also want to download additional information from our site, such as the illustrated manual available in PDF format, or a step by step tutorial. Please take the time to visit the site www.plugsound.com if you need more information. System requirements are on the site.
It is recommended to increase the RAM allocation of your sequencer software. You will also need a couple Megabytes of free system RAM to load the presets.
Virtual instruments need an inter-application driver in order to be ╥seen╙ by your sequencer:
Ñ In OMS this is called ╥IAC Driver╙. If you don╒t see it in your OMS Setup window you might need to reinstall OMS.
Ñ In FreeMIDI you must activate this driver by going to the file menu, selecting ╥FreeMIDI preferences╙, and making sure the Inter-application MIDI checkbox is ticked. Once you╒ve done that you╒ll need to quit your sequencer and launch it again.
Installation
The following text is adapted from our fully illustrated tutorials. It will guide you through the installation process. If you need to troubleshoot, please download the full manuals and other sources of help located on our site.
In order to install your Plugsound on your PowerMac, double-click the installer icon. A standard Mac installer window will appear. Plugsound consists of two files: a data file and a plug-in file. You can choose where you would like the Plugsound data to be installed. The plug-in file will be installed in the right place automatically:
Ñ in Cubase it goes here: Cubase folder -> VstPlugIns folder
Ñ in Logic Audio it goes here: Logic Audio folder -> VstPlugIns folder
Ñ in Pro Tools it goes here: system folder -> DAE folder -> Plug-ins folder
Ñ in Digital Performer it goes here: system folder -> extension folder -> MOTU folder -> Plug-ins folder
Once you╒ve chosen a location, the Data file will be installed in a folder called ╥PlugSound Folder╙. The installer will then create an alias of the ╥.dat╙ file and place it in the plug-ins folder. If you later decide to move the ╥.dat╙ file to another disk, simply delete the alias and create a new one that you will place in your plug-ins folder. The operating rule here is to always have two files in the plug-ins folder: a plug-in and a data file or an alias of the data file.
Now, let╒s use your Plugsound demo.
Launch your sequencer, and open the following window:
- Cubase: the VST Instrument Panel
- Logic: the Audio Mixer (make sure you have audio instruments created)
- Digital Performer and Pro Tools the mixing board.
2 Click on the relevant plug-ins list, and select the plugsound demo (the name will be similar to this: PS03-Demo2, PS05-Demo1╔).
Cubase: once it╒s selected, turn the instrument on, then click on the Edit Button to open the main window of Plugsound.
Other sequencers should open the Plugsound directly.
Now create a MIDI track and you will see plugsound in the list of MIDI outputs. Select the track (Logic/ Cubase) or Record-ready it (Digital Performer/ Pro Tools) to pass MIDI through the track and onwards to the plugsound.
Make sure the MIDI indicator flashes when you play your keyboard. Do not record-ready the audio track.
Now you can play MIDI through to the plug-in and hear it in real time.
Known issues:
Logic 4 cannot save zone-edit parameters, due to a 32kb size limit in Logic╒s effect presets. We have confirmation that Logic 5 solves the issue.
Pro Tools free: the plug-in is not restored when reopening a session. You╒ll need to open it again, and reassign your MIDI tracks.
Pro Tools (all versions): press play at least one time after creating a session and opening a plugsound. This will fill the audio buffers and let the audio pass through the mixer. If you close a session using Plugsound, you will need to quit the program before reopening the same session. Otherwise the MIDI routing might be incorrect. This is also true if you close a project to create a new one: you must quit and relaunch Pro Tools before creating another project using Plugsound.
Cubase & Pro Tools: when switching between the large and small interface, an inconsequential graphics bug might occur. If you want to have the correct graphics, close the window and reopen it.
